For the last couple of months I have been telling you about Andy Macdonald Inventors Skateboarding 101 series. Andy has been doing a great job running down legends whose most enduring achievement in skateboarding was inventing a trick. For the most part the posts have been vert tricks. After all Andy is a vert skater. But the latest segment focuses on the origin of the most common of all street tricks, the kick flip. If you don't know, Rodney Mullan the "freestyle" master at the time and of all time was the first to make the trick that we all learn after we can ollie. Flip on over to watch Rodney tell the history. While there view the history of the McTwist, Madonna, Andrecht and the Benihana.

"........when it comes to the streets, it is fair to stay that MOST of the tricks being done today can be traced back to one very eccentric, creative and talented skateboarder. His name is Rodney Mullan. Rodney invented the flat ground Ollie, which is literally how every modern street trick starts. Next came the Ollie kickflip, which quickly became the standard in street skating. It wasn't long before people were kickflipping down stairs, onto benches and into and out of other tricks. I'd be willing to bet that the number one most asked question in fan mail to pro skaters to this day is: How do you kickflip?"

Ka-nowledge is power.

How to permanently fill a crack:
1.For this task you will need 4 ingredients: 1-Any sort of car body filling compound; in this case we’re using “Bondo”, 2-Bondo hardener 3-Duct tape (for masking) 4-4” putty trowel
2.Mask off the Desired area you would like to crack fill to ensure a neat clean job. (I find that the cleaner, more professional looking the job is; the less likely the business, school or whatever location you are vandalizing will be to remove it.)
3.Pour the of car body filling compound (Bondo) into a mixing container.
4.Pour the hardening compound in the mixing container at a 1 to 10 ratio with the car body-filling compound (Bondo).
5.Mix the 2 compounds together as fast as you can with your trowel and don’t stop until the entire mixing container is a consistent color; in this case it’s pink.
6.Pour the Bondo in the crack. Make an educated guess as to how much compound the crack will take need initially. The chemical reaction of the mixed compounds set fast so its best if the pour is monolithic.
7.Spread the Bondo out with your trowel. It is best if this task is complete within 2 or 3 passes with the trowel because at this point the chemical reaction of the 2 compounds are already setting.
8.Wait 4-10 minutes to dry. The warmer it is outside the faster the compounds will set, cold nights obviously take longer.
9.Once the Bondo is dried, remove your tape and dispose of the evidence…
10.Sand the Bondo down with either sand paper or grip-tape. This process is not always necessary but like I stated before, the more natural and clean your job looks the less likely the establishment is to remove it. In some cases I’ll even paint the Bondo accordingly.
11.Go make some spots!

Boardistan Reports:
Once they put the sword in on the 11 set Nyjah Huston went to work with a big flip front board, a nollie heel nose slide, and then kept delivering at The Crossroads Best Trick contest on Thursday afternoon February 4, 2010. Chris Cole pulled out all the tricks including his weird flip up, run down the rail land back on the board stuff, but it was only enough for second. Nick Merlino got third.

1. Nyjah Huston $3,000
2. Chis Cole $2,000
3. Nick Merlino $1,000

And special mention went to Ben Hatchell for his $500 540 on the Shark.
