Chaz Ortiz Wins his First AST Competition

ortiz_bigrail.jpg

In his fourth AST contest as a Pro Chaz Ortiz stood a top the podium and looked down on Ryan Sheckler, the reining back to back to back to back Dew Cup Champion. The Final Jam is were Ortiz turned it up. All bolts and never picking change Chaz landed more tricks and simple dominated the completion.

In Salt Lake, as with every other city that the tour travels to, Chaz was out at a local skate park skating the day before the Finals. Risking injury to skate. Not train, just skate. F-in awesome!

As for the points Skecler still leads with 338,Ortiz has 330, and P Rod has 323. So anyone can win it. My bet is Shecks goes down. Clearly here is the moment when Ortiz will take over the tour. Less than a year after exploding on the scene the proverbial torch has been passed.

A couple of final thoughts:

If you missed the Finals that aired on USA at 12am Sunday, check your local listings for a rebroadcast on the Universal HD channel. As far as AST Finals go, this was a great one that should not be missed. All of the Pros who I talked to said this was the best course yet. It was a perfect mix of trannie (for flow) and perfectly placed street obstacles. Also adding to the positive vibe was the moving the course indoors. The added seating fit all the Sheckler girls and all the fans who actually wanted to see great skateboarding.
