Where are you Shaun White? Not at the AST Dew Tour
Defending Champ a no-show at first stop of Summer Tour
I saw it coming but I did not have an anwser for it. One day after the wrap of the 1st stop of the AST Dew Tour in Baltimore I am still wondering, what's the deal with Shaun White?
Last week on the AST web site they posted "Defending the Cup". Skate park, FMX, and BMX were represented with their respected winners from last year, but Skate Vert was missing. Hmmm...
I asked around and got, "Shaun has a scheduling conflict with Burton" from a PR rep at AST.
I followed up with, "What could be so important or unexpected that he could not make it?"
There was a shrug of the shoulders and no response. I checked around and found nothing about Shaun White doing any appearence or contest.
After winning the cup last year he has nothing to prove. In what was to be a victory lap for White in Orlando, Shaun got his bell rung pretty good when hit hit his head on the flat bottom. He was taken to the hospital and was not able to accept his Dew Cup later that night.
That could have made Burton think twice about a two time Dew Cup shot for Shaun. Very simply Shaun is worth more to Burton as a Snow Boarder than a Skateboarder. There is more money on the slopes than in the parks. So maybe they are holding him back.
He may just show up in Cleveland. By not showing in Baltimore it makes it very hard to repeat now that two time winner Bucky Lasek held down his home turf with Saturday's win.
Who knows, maybe Shaun has a beef with AST/MTV? He is scheduled to appear at the Maloof Money Cup, so he's not turning a deaf ear to Vert (then again, it's tough to not hear the call of $75,000 first prize).
As for now we can only speculate. If he doesn't show up in Cleveland, one would expect AST to have something more substantial than a company line as to why White is not there defending his crown.
