Positiv Skateboards- Rodney Jones Complete

postpositiv.jpg

While at the Volcom mini ramp contest in Orlando, friend and Positiv Pro, Rodney Jones suggested Interstate do a product review of his new Pro model complete. Positiv has introduced completes for all its Pro riders. The line includes Andy Macdonald, Sandro Dias, Rodney Jones and soon to be out Carlos de Andrade. There also is a team complete model. We took the Jones complete to our local skatepark and shop State of Confusion. We recruited an experienced and non biased local to ride it for two weeks and tell us what he thought.

Mostly we wanted to know was this $70.00 Pro mod complete a toy or a quality Powell poduct worthy of the Pro whose name was on it?

First we checked the Positiv web site for all the product specs and info. We found Positiv Skateboards can be purchased at Amazon.com and Skateone.com or at your local shop through Eastern Skateboard Supply for about $70.00. Soon to be in stores like Dick's and Sports Authority these Positiv Skateboards are made from premium North American Hard Rock Maple or Northern Hard Birch, depending on the model you buy. Seven plies of quality veneer are cold-fused together using high-impulse, water-resistant glue in Skate One’s propietary AirLam™ presses, to ensure maximum pop and durability.

If you are a beginner, save some money and try a Northern Hard Birch Model. This gives you a deck you can learn on at home and also ride at the skatepark. If you want the very best, move up to the high performance North American Hard Rock Maple models for extra pop and durability. Both are available in 4 popular shapes and sizes. In addition, each component has been designed and built to our demanding specifications and then tested during and after production to ensure consistently high quality. Positiv Skateboard bearings are precision chromium steel bearings lubricated with Speed Cream™ and feature a double rubber shield to keep dirt out, and lube in. Positiv Skateboards wheels are made from super high rebound hand cast polyurethane for great grip and roll. Positiv Skateboard trucks are gloss pained, cast aluminum with carbon steel axle and kingpin and high rebound polyurethane cushions make turning easy.

Other features include super high-rebound 54mm/99a polyurethane wheels, trucks with high-rebound polyurethane cushions for easy turning, precision double-rubber shielded chromium steel bearings lubricated with Bones Speed Cream, and super sticky grips with a die-cut POSITIV logo.

OK The bottom line: So does Positiv skateboards provide a high quality skateboard at an entry level price?
Yes, they are the perfect first skateboard for beginners and a smart choice for price conscious advanced skaters alike. The Jones mod is slim at 7.5" and perfect for street or little guys. If you have big hooves or ride a wider deck step up to the Andy Mac or the Sandro at 7.625 and 7.75. Our rider found this to be one tough deck. Good pop, medium concave, and durable.(no chips after two weeks)

The trucks which are lubed at the pivot joint oosed after being worked in. They turned well and only needed to be dialed in after a couple of hour of use. They weigh as much as any other truck out there and grinded well. We will do a follow up on them in a couple of weeks.

The wheels are a little wider than our rider prefered. He found them to hard, but no flat spots, good for street or park. The board did ride a little slow. Powell backs this board but the bearings are not Bones Swiss.

This complete proved to be very durable and is no toy. We left our board with our test rider and will do follow when it wears out or breaks. Look for the update.
