Classic Review: Shorty' s - Fulfill The Dream
So I've been skating for almost 11 years now and yes it's pretty hard to believe, but I remember so much of the early years and just the feeling of learning sooo many new tricks was amazing to me.
I remember when I first got into watching skate videos, it was around '97 and the first video I saw was 411 issue 19 and I couldn't believe some of the stuff they were doing and ever since then I always wanted to see the latest and greatest skate video to come out.
Around 1998 Shorty's was the best. It was everyone's favorite company and their team at the time was amazing. I remember this video being the first video I really anticipated seeing.
Fulfill The Dream was released in 1998 and as soon as i saw it i couldent believe it.
The video was sooo far ahead of its time and at the time this is what i wanted my skating to look like.Almost 10 years later this video still remains my favorite of all time. Now that is a pretty bold statement, but seriously if this video was released today, people would still be saying how amazing it is.The video starts out with Steve Olson who was my favorite skaters in 98 and the way he would skate anything and have the most bizarre yet sick style was mindblowing to me.He kills it and his kickflip fs board shove in the end still to this day stands out to me.Aaron Snyder has a great part and just skates soo tech and with soo much style, everything is flawless that he does and he was definitly the first person to do a fakie 5-0 fakie tre flip and still does it the best.
Toan Nguyen was good and he did some pretty crazy tricks in his time.really good lines and his ender was a big staple for that spot at the time.
Sammy Baptista blew my mind when i first saw his part.I couldent believe that anyone could skate switch so good and have soo much skill being such a little guy,it was just crazy to me and still is to this day.Jesse Silvey was good and definitly fit well with the team, havent seen anything from him in awile but im sure hes still shreddin somewhere.Brandon Turner's part was another groundbreaker and he has always and still does own the switch hardflip. He was soo little in this this video and his skill was soo ahead of his time.Peter Smolik is fun to watch and its still hard to understand some of the tricks he did in this video,he was the full package he could skate gaps, rails, ledges, and he always looked like he was having fun on a skateboard and thats why peter is still amazing to this day.Now last part is someone who alot of kids nowadays have no idea what he did for skateboarding.Well during this time Chad Muska was the Paul Rodriguez of today. His part is still as crazy today as it was almost 10 years ago.He skated some of the biggest rails and did some of the sickest shit on a skateboard.I mean if you havent seen this part before go to youtube or find a way to watch it because it is soo amazing and it still stands out of all the videos ive seen over the years.
This video is a classic today and with 2008 upon us i thought it would be a good idea to share one of the best videos of all time in its almost 10 year anniversary.Shortys may not be the hottest today but 10 years ago-SHORTYS WAS THE SHIT-and there was no denying it.So if you get the chance go buy this video on ebay or anywhere you can find it because i think everyone(no matter what age)should own this video.
